This is a painful lesson.  And it should be a lesson to everyone who operates a gasoline powered boat.  Do not let anyone else fuel your boat! At the very least supervise it. Make sure the fuel is put into the tank.  Also at least twice annually check your fuel system to make sure it is safe.  Run the blower for four minutes before starting the engine.  Use the best gas detector there is, your nose. Open the engine hatch and check for fumes.  Gasoline is very dangerous and needs to be treated as such.
